Moodyville was North Vancouver’s first non-Indigenous settlement, founded by lumber entrepreneur Sewell Prescott Moody in 1865 around a major sawmill. It quickly grew into a thriving community with its own school, library, lodge and telegraph, but declined after the mill closed in 1901 and was annexed by the city by 1925. No structures remain today, though its legacy lives on in local place names.
